What does a beauty blogger do? Beauty bloggers know about makeup, skincare, hair, and fashion. It will take a lot of hard work to stand out in the crowd. But if you are passionate about beauty it might be for you. You’ll have to also keep your social media current. You’ll be posting and engaging on Instagram, Facebook, and probably YouTube.
Should you start a beauty blog? Starting a beauty blog can be very exciting. It will be a way to share your knowledge in the beauty industry. You’ll be able to try out new products and techniques. You might not know off hand how to create a blog, and might be intimidated about having a website, but it's not as difficult as it may sound. Check out my post, How to Start a Blog.
As a beauty blogger, you might do some sponsored posts or other affiliate marketing. You might consider signing up for the following:
Starting a beauty blog basics.
Once you have your niche down (beauty) you might want to put your own spin on it to differentiate from the crowd. Are you only using vegan products as an example. Then you’ll need to name your blog. You might want to go with “yourname.com.” You could also do something cute and feminine but just make sure it is easy to spell and try to get a .com. You also want to claim all social media handles in your name on every major platform. Definitely don’t forget YouTube, as the beauty community is huge there. Once you do that you’ll want to start posting. I think ten posts is a good number to start at. Have these be pillars of your blog, and consider having content upgrades like freebies and perhaps a tripwire offer till you produce a digital product.
How can I be a good blogger?
Know your niche. You needn’t have a niche, but it helps. You might want to focus on just “beauty” to get a feel for blogging but you will also want to probably niche down to something more specific, like skincare.
Define your audience. Who is reading your writing? You’ll want to define your audience so you are helping them solve problems.
Create value. Your blog must add value to its readers’ lives. They are following you and you need to give them tips etc in return.
Always be original. Of course, there are other beauty blogs. What makes you different? This connects back to defining your niche fully.
Don’t try to be someone else.. You have a unique story and you can share it with the world in relation to your niche.
Don’t lie. You need to be real.
Be transparent. You don’t have to share everything but share what is appropriate for what you are writing about and stay on brand.
Invest time. Blogging is a lot of work and you’ll be devoting a ton of time to it.
Have a great looking website. What do you want your site to look like? This is one reason I chose Squarespace.
Get comfortable with writing. Writers find their voice as time goes on.
Have a schedule. This is more about knowing your audience and you can find when they are reading your work in the analytics of your blog.
Comments. You’ll get negative comments from time to time. Just delete them and don’t let them get to you.
Take the time to research. Spend time researching what you’re writing about. You want to give relevant information to your readers.
Keep It simplistic. It doesn’t matter what a blog is about but it needs to be an easy read and easy to navigate.
Photos. Put a picture of yourself on your blog. People want to know who they are getting information from. Put a face on your content.
Live your best life. You will be writing about your life to some extent. Get out of the house to have good stories to tell.
