Finance issues can happen to anyone. Sometimes life happens and you find yourself in a pretty bad financial spot. While you probably can’t fix it overnight, there are some things you can do.
Put Your Credit Cards Away at Home
There are various tips online as to where to put them or cut them up etc and I would say the best thing you can do is to keep them whole and put them in a drawer or safe. Make a commitment to yourself that you won’t use them unless it is absolutely necessary. That might take some willpower or some rethinking about the way you live your life. This can avoid you getting into debt with spontaneous purchases of things you don’t need. If you don’t have the cash to cover it, then you can’t afford it.
Consider Canceling Store Cards
You might want to speak to someone before doing this but I did see it as a suggestion in various articles. Sometimes closing accounts can hurt your credit so don’t do it on a whim, consult someone in finance first.
Pay Back Debt as Quickly as Possible
Always make the minimum payment on your credit cards (and all your bills) but consider paying more on the credit cards if you can. The sooner you get them paid off the better.
Find a Way to Make More Income
Find a side hustle. Who knows it may even turn into your main gig if you are successful. There are a million things you can try, from freelance writing to dog walking. Have a search on Pinterest and you’ll get instructions on how to start any gig. Search “Work From Home” or “Side Hustle” and you’ll see what I mean.
Find Creative Ways to Save Money
One way I love to save money is with coupons! There are so many options online now and you’ll want to sign up for any loyalty coupons at your favorite stores. I have gotten so many things free at Walgreens because I have their store discount card and I signed up as a “Beauty Enthusiast” so I get even more points. I bring in coupons from the Sunday paper or online and save even more!
Another thing you can try is bringing your lunch to work or school instead of getting fast food. You can also start meal planning before you go to the grocery store. Most of the time we don’t buy things unless they are part of a planned meal. (This keeps you from buying stuff you don’t eat.)
Create a Budget
The best way of doing this in my experience is to get all the information together (due dates, amounts, etc) for all your bills and plug them into a planner. Then tally them up and figure out how much money you need to make per week/month. This is going to be comforting or maybe a little scary. But you might find that if you cut stuff out of your lifestyle, you’ll have enough money to pay your bills. If not, then you need to get your side hustle on as stated earlier.
Anyone can have financial issues. Some things are just out of our control. I hope you found these tips helpful. There’s lots of information online so don’t stop here, keep reading. There IS hope.

If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you, How to Start a Blog. If you are asking yourself “Can you seriously make money blogging?” My main tip is to be self-hosted. This is essential if you want to monetize your blog. It also makes you look more professional to companies you will partner with. Blogging income won’t happen unless you are self-hosted. You can pick from these links: Bluehost, or HostGator.
