Are you considering starting a blog, but you aren’t sure what to write about? You’ve probably heard that you need to pick a niche and find your ideal audience. You’ll want to help your readers with problems in your niche and that will help you gain traffic.
If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you, How to Start a Blog. If you are asking yourself “Can you seriously make money blogging?” My main tip is to be self-hosted. This is essential if you want to monetize your blog. It also makes you look more professional to companies you will partner with. Blogging income won’t happen unless you are self-hosted. You can pick from these links: Bluehost, or HostGator.
Think you can start a blog without a niche? Well, the answer to that is yes and no. There are popular “lifestyle” blogs that cover a wide array of topics that aren’t really related. It’s harder though when someone comes to your blog to learn about blogging put you’re writing a post about recipes. They likely won’t stay around very long. You could be the exception but chances are you need to decide on a niche to have a popular blog. If you have a few interests that you’d like to blog about see how you could connect them. For instance, I have a post about Starting a Blog in College because I’m currently a student. I’m still talking about blogging but get to tie in schooling too. This is how you can write about different topics.
The first thing you’ll need to do is decide what your niche will be. You might consider something you have a lot of knowledge about or a passion about. There are lots of topics to choose from. One smart way to choose a blog niche is to select something that will do well on Pinterest.
These topics include:
- Small Business
- Fitness and health
Unfortunately, you can’t just write your diary online and expect people to read it. However, you don’t need to necessarily be an expert on the topic because you can research before you write. It will be a bit helpful if you already know the basics and its a subject you enjoy talking and writing about. You’ll want to write about something you’ll enjoy for the long haul.
You could start a blog without choosing a niche, but why make things harder on yourself? The best thing to do is decide on a topic and get writing, the sooner the better. Don’t spend too much time researching and not enough time creating. You could get stuck and fear that your blog will fail if you put too much pressure on yourself. I recommend learning as you go, and selecting a niche before you get started.
