Blogging is a great way to build a business around freelance services or digital products. You can also promote a brick and mortar small business as well. You can be creative and nurture your writing talent. You may have heard that you can “make money regarding your passion.” You might be wondering if this is true. Well, yes and no.
Before you start blogging you should definitely be aware that it is not a get rich quick scheme. A lot of bloggers never even make money from their blogs because they give up to soon. For me personally, the best way for me to make an income is through writing services through my blog. I also do some affiliate marketing. You’ll have to figure out the best way for you to monetize your blog. You may also be considering digital products like courses and ebooks.
Making money blogging takes a lot of time and effort, and is not for the faint of heart. You’ll need to write a lot, organize social media, and stay on top of algorithm changes. However, if you are really passionate about your niche, as they say, it can be worth it. Maybe.
What is a blog niche? Well, I blog about blogging. But there are related topics I touch on too, like social media and entrepreneurship. All of these categories make up my niche. And yes, I do happen to be passionate about blogging, and this is not my first blog. I don’t necessarily consider myself an expert but I am constantly learning new things about blogging and love sharing what I learn.
Blogging your passion can be tricky because you have to find a way to monetize it if that is your goal. For instance, for a while, I wrote a blog about mental health, but it was difficult to monetize as someone suffering from mental illness instead of someone who has a lot of credentials treating it. I eventually gave up on the blog. Also, you might find your passion just isn’t that popular. You really need a combination of something that can be monetized and gain traffic.
What is the best niche to choose? There are a lot of niches that do really well on Pinterest and that is a really good place to start. These include:
- Love & Relationships
- Marketing & Social Media
- How to Make Money
- Health & Fitness
If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you, How to Start a Blog. If you are asking yourself “Can you seriously make money blogging?” My main tip is to be self-hosted. This is essential if you want to monetize your blog. It also makes you look more professional to companies you will partner with. Blogging income won’t happen unless you are self-hosted. You can pick from these links: Bluehost or HostGator.
You can use Pinterest and Google to get ideas. Don’t just blatantly plagiarize someone, but read some articles and do a better job of explaining something. Consider SEO (a whole other topic on its own.) You’ll also want to find articles to share on social media from others in your niche and this is a good way to find them.
You’ll want to keep an editorial planner and posting schedule. Some to try are:
Smart Blog Planner
EPIC BLOG: One Year Editorial Planner
Michael's Recollections Planner
You’ll want to write a ton of content. This Summer I have been trying to post daily just to get my content amount higher. I won’t always do that but I try to stay consistent if I can. You really need to be writing a few times a week at least when you are starting out.
You will need to promote your content on social media. There are a lot of great tools that can help you with that.
Tailwind for Pinterest
Planoly for Instagram
Recurpost for Facebook and Twitter
Don’t spread yourself too thin, focus on one platform at a time. I tried to get a decent amount of views on Pinterest before I really focused on anything else. Right now I’m trying to grow my Instagram, and you can follow me HERE.
You need to be consistent with your blogging. It will be hard to gain success if you don’t hold yourself accountable and have a schedule. I am not always the best at this but I am working on it.
Never stop learning! I read articles on Pinterest every day! I need to keep learning not only for my own success but also to share with my readers. This is where that “passion” thing might come in. I really love blogging and I want to be successful so I can spend time reading books, posts, and videos when I can and enjoy myself. Hopefully, with these tips, you will be able to find something to blog about with both passion and profitability.
