Do you have a blog? If so you have probably heard of SEO or Search Engine Optimization. SEO is critical to getting your information found on the web. People won’t buy from you if they can’t find you! Besides using keywords and phrases in your posts, you’ll also want to make your photos SEO friendly as well. Here are the steps to optimize your blog photos for SEO.
Resize your photos. Uploading a heavy picture will slow your site and affect your bounce rate. Resizing and compressing them will help with this. It will also rank you higher in Google searches. There are several ways to resize photos. Two that I like are optimizilla.com and picresize.com.
Rename the file with a keyword. You’ll want to use long tail keywords which are at least three words. Think of it just like creating a title for a post. What is the photo or post about?
You’ll also want to fill in the alt text. You’ll see this when you upload your image. Use keywords in this too. SEO can’t really see the image itself, it will read the alt text.
Select link to none. This will make sure if the picture is pinned it links back to your actual post.
Use relevant images. Google doesn’t like random pictures that will confuse people. Think confusing alt text here.
If you want to learn more about SEO, then you should research keywords, interlinking, and if you have a WordPress site, tools like Yoast plugin, sitemaps, picture optimization, and tips to ensure a fasting website. SEO can be confusing at first but at its most basic level it boils down to keywords that get your content found. If people can’t find you they won’t buy from you. You’ll need to show up in searches. This makes creating SEO optimized photos so important for your blog.
