Staying productive is something many bloggers struggle with. Perhaps you’ve recently started a blog and your productivity is waning. Not to worry, there are several things you can focus on that will help make you more productive while blogging for money.
When I first started my blog I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to make an income from it. We might not all start out that way but I would say most of us do. One way to stay excited about your blog as time goes on is to have goals. Have targets for traffic and income that you want to hit that can help keep you excited about blogging so you don’t fall behind in your posting schedule.
If you want to make money blogging, you have to make your blog a priority. This might mean getting up earlier, not watching as much television, and keeping a reign on your social media use. In the beginning, most of your free time needs to be spent on your blog. Everyone talks about passive income, but what they may neglect to mention is all the work they had to put in up front.
Bad habits can be hard to break, and it can also be hard to start new productive habits. You need to stay consistent to create good habits and keep trying to break the bad ones. I have a lot of bad habits personally so this is something I’m still working on. One of the good habits I’m trying to start is to blog every day this Summer before school starts again for me in the Fall.
Routines are similar to habits for me. I try to have the same routine every morning. I wake up with my parrots, I start a pot of coffee, take my meds, and then get right to the computer. I know if I don’t sit down at the computer, I’ll end up wasting my most productive hours scrolling social media. If I sit down at the computer first thing, I’m already tackling email while having my first cup of Joe.
You guys should know by now that I love planning. Paper planners rock. They’re pretty and functional. Here are the ones I recommend.
I love to read and when I do I like to pick titles that will help my blog and also my writing in general. Here are two really good books to start out with:
If you can’t seem to concentrate on reading a whole book, one thing you can do is read on Pinterest. I can get lost in blog posts for a really long time on there, but it helps me with scheduling social media (because I find the best blog posts) and also helps me further my craft. I honestly think although you can definitely waste time on Pinterest, if you want to be constantly learning its one of the best places to “waste” time.
Tools for Automation
One of the best ways to stay productive is by automation. There is absolutely no way I could stay on all social media platforms every day and post as much as I need to without automation tools.
“Things you are passionate about are not random, they are your calling.” Fabienne Fredrickson
“Make life a masterpiece; Imagine no limitations on what you can be, have, or do.” Brian Tracey
“Ideas don’t change your life. You change your life, via the power of great ideas.” Unknown
If you want to stay productive, one of the best things you can do is take care of yourself. (Seems like a no-brainer.) For me this means trying to eat healthy, taking my walks and tracking them with my new Apple Watch Series 3. A lot of people swear by getting ready every day as if they were going into a regular job, but personally, I don’t do that. Ha.
For me, this goes right back to planning. I keep my planner on my desk and try to keep my desk from being messy when I can. You need to try to keep a clean area. It will help clear your head.
Overcoming overwhelm is hard. I get overwhelmed when I start school. It just becomes so much all at once. The best way for me to overcome this is usually two things:
Remember your why.
Take a short break, maybe one day, and then go back to it.
Procrastination is rough. Like I said earlier in the post I have to sit right down at the computer or I know I won’t get to it. I am the queen of procrastination. I’m going to be real with my audience here, procrastination is something I have literally struggled with my whole life and I am still working on this one. The best thing that I’ve been able to do is to just force myself to do it (whatever “it” is.) If you need to write some posts, just force yourself to sit down at the computer and crank them out.
It doesn’t have to be perfect, just get it out there. You don’t need to spend three weeks choosing a theme before you start your blog. Just pick one. You don’t have to survey a product idea in 35 Facebook groups before you make it. Just do it. It’ll be okay.
Staying productive while blogging for money can be hard at times. There’s a lot of ways you could stray from what you are supposed to be doing. There’s never just one answer to a problem though, these are just my suggestions that have worked for me. Do you have any ways that you stay productive? Let me know in the comments!

If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you, How to Start a Blog. If you are asking yourself “Can you seriously make money blogging?” My main tip is to be self-hosted. This is essential if you want to monetize your blog. It also makes you look more professional to companies you will partner with. Blogging income won’t happen unless you are self-hosted. You can pick from these links: Bluehost, or HostGator.
