There was a poll done by Lifehacker readers and it showed that over fifty percent of bloggers make less than $100 a month from their blogs. In this same survey, only thirteen percent said they made over $1000 each month. This isn’t including bloggers that simply gave up from not making money. But yet you see other bloggers publishing income reports making tons of cash?
What are the mistakes keeping you from earning money as a blogger?
Your niche isn’t targeted enough. This is a big deal. To make a full-time income as a blogger, your audience needs to be very specific. Instead of blogging about art, you should be blogging about art tips for busy moms, for example.
Your paid offerings are not specific. If you do have a specific niche but your paid offering is not specific you will encounter the same problem. For instance, life coaching is very general. Life coaching for college grads trying to find their dream job is much more targeted.
You’re relying on strategies that require more traffic than you are getting. Instead, focus on things like online courses, ebooks, services and some affiliate marketing.
Your paid offerings don’t match your audience. If you have already created things that aren’t selling, They are a poor fit for your email list. You’ll need to learn more about your audience and try again.
You’re putting all your eggs in one basket. You shouldn’t focus on just one strategy. You should choose 2 or 3 strategies to focus on that are a good fit for your blog and your readers.
There are things you should ask yourself before deciding on how to make money blogging. Who do I really want to be working with? Who do I want to serve? What qualities does my target audience have? What can I create that will solve problems for my target audience? Only then can you make money from your audience by helping them.
