Many of us enjoy doing creative things, like blogging and freelance writing. Being creative isn’t always easy and you can get stuck. If you work from home or do creative work frequently, you may end up getting burnt out, too. How can you channel your creativity and come up with great ideas even in a pinch? Here are some things to try to boost your creativity when you are in a slump.
Listen to your favorite band or something new.
I like listening to “Focus” music on Spotify.
Use a guided meditation or your own.
You might just need to relax.
Get someone else's perspective, different opinions can help.
The more the better. You can ask your readers on your email list what they are struggling with. Don’t have an email list? You should start one asap. I use MailerLite which is free for your first 1k subscribers.
Think about a distant time, in the past or look forward to the future.
What will be going on in 2050? What childhood memories do you have that can inspire you today?
Ditch the computer and write by hand.
This simple act can help you think more creatively. You can feel free to doodle in the margins and see where it takes you.
Zone out for a few minutes.
Daydreaming always helps. Sometimes just taking a break is exactly what you needed.
Laughter helps create a positive mood.
Watch some comedy in your downtime.
Spend some time outside. Enjoy the park or a nice walk. Getting away from the computer is healthy.
Make something by hand, like drawing or making jewelry.
Hang out with someone you trust and have a deep conversation.
Talk about life, or even just about your day.
Get some sleep.
It can be hard to be creative without enough rest. If you have the ability to do so, take an afternoon nap.
Go to a coffee shop.
Sometimes new scenery and background noise can help.
Don’t try to make it perfect.
Relax and do your best. Just get it out there and into the world. Don’t be a perfectionist with your posts. You can always edit them later.
Write down problems and come up with creative solutions.
Something you are stressing over? Commit to figuring it out for 15 minutes and see what you come up with.
Spend time alone.
Plug in your headphones, and focus on the task at hand.
Do this by sitting for 15 minutes and write down everything that comes to mind without stopping to edit.
Read a blog.
You could also take a peek at a magazine or your favorite book.
Hopefully, some of these tips will get your creative juices flowing. There is nothing worse than feeling stuck on a project or your writing.

If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you, How to Start a Blog. If you are asking yourself “Can you seriously make money blogging?” My main tip is to be self-hosted. This is essential if you want to monetize your blog. It also makes you look more professional to companies you will partner with. Blogging income won’t happen unless you are self-hosted. You can pick from these links: Bluehost, or HostGator.
