Time is valuable when you are a creative business owner. You will need to find a way to keep your mind focused and get as much as you can be done in a day. Being your own boss is great but it’s also a lot of work. Here are some tips to save time in your creative business.
Batching. If you switch between tasks all day you’ll probably be getting less done than if you did like tasks all at once. You might use different tools for different aspects of your business. If you have a blog, you might write all the posts for the week in one day. The next day you might schedule all your social media.
Have a planner. My planner is amazing. It's called the EPIC BLOG: One Year Editorial Planner. I get so much more done now that when I would just wing it. Having to figure out what to do by the hour is much harder than if you just set up a plan the night before. Check off things as you go. You may want to have a block schedule, with certain times being for certain things in your business.
Track your time. This will give you an idea of where your time is going and how you can improve.
Pomodoro Technique. Work in 25-minute sprints and then break for 5 minutes and keep going. People customize this to make it work for them.
Stay organized. Clean your desk, clean up your computer files and make sure everything is arranged in your planner. It will ease stress to do this. You’ll know where everything is.
Automate. You’ll want to automate and outsource anything in your business you can’t stand doing. If you hate social media pay someone else to do it.
Have goals. Its hard to stay motivated if you don’t have goals to reach. You need clear steps to take in order to reach those goals you have set.
Build a margin so your day is not too scheduled which can cause stress. Don’t necessarily schedule things back to back or have 100 items on your to-do list.
Do your hardest task when you work the best. For me, this is early in the morning. I get up at 4 to 5 am every day, because that is when I can work the best. For you, it might be staying up late. Find your hours and do the important stuff then.
Have power hours to work on your passion projects. If you are in a service business sometimes passive income projects can take a backseat. You should make time for these projects so you don’t have to run on a hamster wheel forever.
With these tips, you will save time in your creative business. It seems like there is always so much to get done and not enough time in the day. With proper planning, you can change that.
