I have had several blogs since I started. My first blog was a wordpress.com blog to go along with my first Etsy store that I was selling crafts on. I’ve come a long way from that point, but what got me started was the connection between blogging and business. If you have a creative business, you really need to start a blog. There are so many other reasons to start a blog and many of them inspire me to keep going.
You don’t have to have the experience to start a blog but you might become an expert.
When I initially started blogging I knew nothing about being self-hosted or SEO or any of that. But now, several years later, I’m writing about blogging. In researching to perfect my craft I have learned a ton and I love sharing it with others via my current blog. I’m not necessarily an “expert” in the industry, but I am definitely an expert within my personal space and people I actually know. The knowledge just continues to grow as algorithms and everything else changes over time. I’m in this for the long haul.
Blogging can change your life.
Blogging has definitely changed my life for the better. Since I started getting serious about blogging, my freelance writing career has taken off. My blog has become an example of my ability to write content and continues to get me jobs. Before I started writing I wasn’t sure that I would be able to bring income to the table due to chronic illness. However, with freelance writing, I am able to work on my own terms. There is a lot of freedom in writing and blogging which is good for people with chronic illness.
Blogging will open up doors to new opportunities.
So far for me, this has been freelance writing but I’m sure other opportunities will happen as well. There are a lot of affiliate opportunities and some people do sponsor posts although for the most part, the ones offered to me do not fit my niche.
People will be inspired by you.
Being a full-time student and blogger is no easy feat. I’ve been told I inspire others with what I’m able to achieve and that really does feel amazing and keeps me going.
You’ll find your writing voice and become a better writer.
I have always been a writer from a very young age but 15 years out of school I had become a bit rusty. I improve with every post. I’m also back in college studying Digital Art & Design with a minor in Writing. That also helps, ha.
You can help people.
I know there are people out there searching for a way to make income on their own terms and I want to teach them that they can succeed through writing. I have helped anyone I know in the disabled community with appropriate links to get them started working from home. That is huge for them and truly life-changing.
Blogging is a challenge.
With blogging you are always learning and adapting to every algorithm change there is something new to learn. I love that I always have something to do. Blogging is my hobby project as well as my business.
Blogging can lead to healthy habits.
I am so organized and plan so much more now than I used too. This is really helping me in college as well. I would be lost without my planner. Here are a few to choose from:

Blogging is a great way to make income.
It’s definitely not a get rich quick scheme and you may find like me that one on one services is how you make your income, but you should always be striving for passive income through affiliate links.
I’m so glad that I started blogging on that Wordpress.com blog so many years ago. Now I know so much more about blogging and being self-hosted and just blogging strategy in general.
Have you started a blog yet?
If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you, How to Start a Blog. If you are asking yourself “Can you seriously make money blogging?” My main tip is to be self-hosted. This is essential if you want to monetize your blog. It also makes you look more professional to companies you will partner with. Blogging income won’t happen unless you are self-hosted. You can pick from these links: Bluehost, or HostGator.
